Thank you for coming by, Mr Benedict. Goodbye, Mr Al Ayad. All the best.

SCENE TEN

Tom and Angela’s house. ANGELA is marking papers. HARRY is checking the cupboard.

HARRY: No coffee. Bloody hell. How come there’s no coffee?

ANGELA: I beg your pardon, Your Royal Highness. You’ll have to make a supreme effort and walk to the corner shop.

HARRY: I’ve just walked all the way from the city.

ANGELA: What’s the matter with you?

HARRY: Nothing.

ANGELA: Harry?

HARRY: I didn’t get the tender.

ANGELA: Oh, sweetheart, I’m sorry.

HARRY: They gave it to that loser, Julian Wilks.

ANGELA: This is for the bar in the city? Oh, Harry.

HARRY: There wasn’t a single person in that outfit who had a clue about contemporary design. You know how I told you they wanted a retro-futuristic look? They didn’t. They chose this stained-glass mosaic on dark wood bullshit that’s been shat into half the laneways in the CBD. It’s so ’98. But what would they know? No one’s going to go there. I give it three months. Max.

ANGELA: That’s really disappointing, Harry.

HARRY: Whatever. Just don’t tell Dad. Please.

ANGELA: Why not?

HARRY: I can’t handle the lecture.

ANGELA: He’ll be understanding.

HARRY: No he won’t. He thinks he knows everything about how the market place works. Understanding the client’s needs. All that crap.

ANGELA: Well?

HARRY: He’s a socialist, for God’s sake.

ANGELA: He’s going to have to know sooner or later.

HARRY: Why? He won’t ask.

ANGELA: You haven’t got a job.

HARRY: I don’t want to be a salary man. Doing corporate shit. I want to do my own work. We’ve had this conversation. It’s just that you and Dad don’t think I’m good enough.

ANGELA: It’s not that.

HARRY: Yeah. Whatever, Mum.

HARRY exits. ANGELA sighs and goes back to her work. She hears a thump outside and then sees a shadow moving across the wall. She is frozen. She goes to investigate and bumps into a very drunk LACHLAN. ANGELA screams.
